Happy 235th Birthday, U.S.A.!

Today is the nation’s 235 birthday and if you want to celebrate it with the community, you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
The annual parade at 9 a.m. in downtown Cave Spring features fire trucks, floats, horses and motorcycles.
“It is such a great small town, all-American, family-centered parade,” said Christa Jackson, the founder of the parade.
The parade is expected to last about an hour.
Rome’s fireworks begin later this evening but if you get hungry between the celebrations, there are plenty of homemade food options.
The Model Ruritan Club will have a barbecue sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shannon Scout Cabin. Barbecue plates, sandwiches and Brunswick stew will be sold. The Friendly Rivers Homemakers Club will sell homemade desserts.
The American Legion Post 5 on Shorter Avenue will have pork barbecue and Brunswick stew from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The proceeds will go toward local charities.
Glorious New Jerusalem Church will host a barbecue and flea market today from 9 a.m. to mid-afternoon. Barbecue ribs, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers and cold drinks will be sold. The flea market will include a wide variety of items, from yard sets to clothes. The event will be at the Lindale Auction Building, 696 Park Ave.
Rome’s annual Fourth of July fireworks will be at Ridge Ferry Park when the sun goes down, but there will be plenty to do while the sun is still shining.
The park will be full of food vendors, activities and entertainment at 6 p.m.
The live music kicks off with Jerry on the Moon at 6:30 p.m. and local favorite KneckDown at 8 p.m.
Around 9:20 p.m., a rendition of the national anthem will be played on the bagpipes. Afterward, the fireworks will begin.
